Billionaire rapper Dr Dre hospitalised after brain aneurysm

Rapper and producer Dr Dre is in hospital being treated for a reported brain aneurysm.

The music mogul was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday, TMZ reported.

In a post on Instagram, he said: “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team."

“I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

Born in the Southern California city of Compton, Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, has produced hits for Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and won six Grammy awards.

Dre founded Beats Electronics in 2008 with Jimmy Iovine and six years later they launched a streaming subscription service, Beats Music. Apple acquired both in a $3bn deal in 2014.

Friends and fellow stars have sent their well wishes. Snoop Dogg, who was discovered by Dr Dre in the early 1990s, wrote on Instagram: "GET WELL DR DRE WE NEED U CUZ."

Missy Elliott wrote: "Prayers up for Dr. Dre and his family for healing & Strength over his mind & body." And singer Ciara tweeted: "Praying for you Dr. Dre. Praying for a full recovery."

His former NWA bandmate, Ice Cube, also sent his love, tweeting: "Send your love and prayers to the homie Dr. Dre."
