Idris Elba has been announced as the host of the Africa Day Benefit concert to commemorate Africa Day.
The virtual event scheduled is being organised in collaboration with Networks Africa and YouTube.
The celebration is raising funds to help children and families in Africa that are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
All proceeds raised from the benefit concert campaign will be donated to support families with food and health needs across the continent especially countries greatly affected by the coronavirus crisis.
The two-hour special will be streamed and broadcast to millions of viewers in Africa and around the world on MTV and on the MTV Base Africa YouTube channel.
The organisers have also announced an eclectic lineup of artists including Burna Boy, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, AKA, Diamond Platnumz and Nasty C.
Other artists who have been confirmed are Sauti Sol, Yemi Alade, Fally Ipupa, StoneBwoy, Teni and Angelique Kidjo, to name a few.
The benefit concert will also be made available after Africa Day to encourage individuals and organisations to continue pledging. Speaking about the event, Idris Elba, said: “Taking a moment to shine a light on the African arts and Africa as a whole.
"A continent of this size should find a way to dig deep and stand up for one another at a time like this. It’s important for the future and history will not forget.”
The global pandemic has affected the lives of many and caused an economic downturn, which has greatly impacted nations all over the world. All proceeds will be towards tackling the crisis.
